The richness of Indonesian marine biodiversity brings extraordinary opportunities for the wealthiness of human beings. One of many marine plants famous for its various usage is seaweed. The plants are usually cultivated by monoline method and floating method for about 56 to 60 days in an unpolluted water and modest wave. Such requirements have made the sea of Ujung Pandang, Lombok, Manado, Bali, Madura, and Thousand Islands as the potential fields for cultivation. As a type of vegetative propagation or naturally grown seaweed, intensive efforts and costs are required only at the first stage of cultivation. |
| Well known as Irish moss, the red seaweed can be processed to produce carrageenan that is extensively utilized as emulsifying, thickening, gelling, and texture enchancing agents. With its ability to interact with proteins and other hydrocolloids, carrageenan finds its use mainly in meat and poultry applications as extenders and as an agent for controlling purge or syneresis. |

as project in April of 1997 and started the commercial production in March
of 1998, PT. Gumindo Perkasa Industri has
devoted a lot of its time and effort in producing carrageenan products.
The demand for carrageenan itself grows an average of 5% - 10% per annum creating an opportunity as well as a challenge for us to grow in this millenium. |

| Built on an area of 10,000 sqm., PT. Gumindo Perkasa Industri's factory is located in Merak, West Java. Currently the factory is running at full capacity to fulfill the worldwide demand. Since most of our products are used for food processing, sterile and clean environment has been and will always be a primary concern. |  |
| The factory is equipped with five laboratories. These are the raw material testing, process control, quality assurance, microbiology, and research and development laboratories all run by a highly qualified team of scientists, chemists, and engineers. |
