PT. Gumindo Perkasa Industri mainly produces pure and blended semi-refined kappa and iota carrageenan. These types of carrageenan are derived mainly from the selected species of seaweed called Eucheuma cottonii and Eucheuma spinosum respectively. Kappa carrageenan is known for its properties as gelling type that produces stiff and strong gel structure suitable for applications that require shape retention while iota carrageenan is a very weak gelling type suitable for applications that require freeze-and-thaw stability.

Both types of carrageenan are manufactured in pure or blended form the primary functions of which are for water retention or syneresis control especially in gelling systems, texture and mouth-feel enchancement in milk-based applications, and yield improvement with good sliceability and texture in meat and poultry products.

Most of these products are exported to Europe, Canada, Hong Kong, China, and USA while the rest are for local consumption.
